If its just for plinking, get the smallest caliber you can. I carry a glock 30 as a backup and concealed when off duty. It's on the beefier side of small guns, but it takes magazines from my duty weapon (glock 21) and I like being ready for a loooong night.

It shoots smooth and is pretty consistently accurate. No gripes other than being wide.
