The only thing I can think of is that you may want to reduce your RPM a bit until you get comfortable with the smaller pad. Then you can probably kick it right back up to where you were with the larger ones. (The edge of the smaller pad will spin faster thus potentially creating more heat)

Actually, the larger pads will spin faster, well seemingly. Sine the larger pads have a larger circumference, they have to travel further to make a complete circle. thus a 6" pad and a 8" pad at 1000RPM, the larger pad will spin faster. Is it enough difference to notice? IDK
