I wish that was true.
They used the original chassis, maybe with a few very minor changes. I'm still wondering why, after
10 years of selling this platform, they refuse to bring over the new one (I think it's C1). It's amazing how they can create such a great new car as the Fusion and "update" an obsolete small car that could substantially bolster sales and interest in Ford. And it's not like cost can be an issue, since they're already using the "new" (2004! lol) Focus platform to underpin the Mazda3 and S40 as you noted.
