Skip the Rain-x. I won't go into all of the reasons why, just do a search here if you want some more info. I guess if you're willing to keep re-applying it over and over you can get it to work, but there's better options. There are other products out there that do ok, in particular Aquapel, which you'll never find at Walmart but maybe at an auto parts store. At least tell your friend to look for a spray product similar to Rain-X to make for easier application. Some guys just use wax like Collinite on their windshield. IIRC, Scottwax said
NXT glass cleaner spray lasted as long or longer as Rain-X for a similar effect with water beading.
