| Years ago, some people used kerosene (another fuel form obviously) to clean paint finishes. Also, some detailing products have been known to contain kerosene or other strong solvents, specifically for cleaning paint, and removing oxidation. Therefore, I don't think gas will prevent oxidation, but rather it is just removing some of what is there.
