| thanks for posting this. I've been a bit out of it lately and have been unable to stay abreast of the news, so I'm pleased you had the presence of mind and history to post this thread.
I was fortunate enough to see an interview with this woman a bunch of years ago, and I suppose was a little surprised even then to have the opportunity. surprised not simply that she was still alive and agreeable to the interview, but amazed by her discretion and humility, her honesty, and her altogether gracious and kind nature.
reading about her in history classes as a kid, her heroism was in large part overshadowed by the times, resultant civil rights legislation, and charismatic leadership spawned from similar statements. not so many real and unlikely heroes anymore with sensationalism running rampant. it's the end of an era.
