My experiernce is just the opposite; I tend to get a thinner coat and use less product overall when I use the PC and a finishing pad. If I really want to stretch whatever LSP I'm using, I'll use a 4" spot finishing pad instead of a 6". The 4" is really not much bigger than a hand applicator, so there's really no product waste, and the PC does a better job than my aging shoulders.
