For years I have used my B&D rotary (Dewalt 849 equivalent) to compound and in some cases light polishing. At 8.x pounds I'm just wanting something lighter for less fatigue. While I don't feel that any one of these machines is truly any better in quality than the other the weights of the Makita and Hitachi stand out as they're 2.x pounds lighter than the others. The Fein and Metabo are also lighter polishers but IMO the price doesn't work once the warranty gets factored in. My choice to pick up the Hitachi was because of the weight, price($134 shipped) and the 5 year warranty.
