Could this be the problem in your use of the shade? I don't think any of the EZups are meant to be put up by one person. My instructions say 2 people should do it and I can see why. There is just too much pulling and bending that can happen if one person tries it. I have done it one time and realized I'd probably pop a rivet or something if I wasn't extremely careful. I can take it down by myself easily.

I've used my Sierra 12x12 EZ-up probably 30 or more times. Granted, the quality of it's construction does not compare to EZups professional grade canopies but for what I paid for it, I've been very happy.

For one person erection, you can get a $35 canopy from Wal-marts. However, it takes about 10 minutes of putting pvc tubing together and then stretching the fabric over the top. But, the frame will last a lifetime.
