| Not only is basic car control in emergency situation not taught, but much of the old school folklore that is passed down from driver to drive is detrimental in today’s modern cars. It amazes me how many people still think they should “pump” the brakes on modern cars equipped with the latest ABS technology. Also, simple skills such as turning into a slide are not taught or even mentioned. While the advances in ABS, traction control, yaw control or whatever you want to call the electronic stability control have made cars more safe, the basic skills for handling a car under less than ideal conditions has really diminished. The current popularity of awd and 4-wheel drives systems also seem to have dumbed down the general driver to what these systems really permit. It does not give the SUV drive a license to drive much faster under less ideal conditions.
