What does this partner expect from the partnership? If it is mainly about the money, you should open a carwash with express detailing service. I am not sure if this is true, but I keep hearing that gas stations do not make the big dollars that they used to so you are best served to have something to sell besides gas. As far as a carwash goes, location and speed is going to be more important than the quality. I have never owned a detail shop, but I have worked in one and you might have to rely on used car dealers for most of your business when you start out which means you will be detailing the most neglected cars instead of having a steady stream of luxury cars at your door.

I think you should set up some rules and boundaries with your partner to get a clear picture of where he stands if you are going into this venture with him.
