Thanks guys...it hasn't been my experience either that my tires have a limited shelf life, I'm sure there a number of variables that could play into that one way or another. My tires tend to last a long time and I've yet to have one go due to dry rot.

I wanted to post the idea here because as in a lot of cases, here is where you can really get the good ideas from others. Right now I keep all my tires and tires mounted on wheels stacked horizontally on top of each other with neoprene layered in between. Would storing them in a cradle make a difference if I can come up with a way to store them like that? what would be the benefit exactly over my current method aside from any weight factors that might be involved?
