I've seen a couple of comprehensive reviews on tire gages and the whiz-bang digitals always score the lowest. The best gage appears to be the Bourdon Tube type, listed above. The old $2 pencil style also faired very well.

I've got gages of all three types and can confirm the digital one is the most inaccurate. My unit came from Tire Rack, it's off by 2 - 3psi.

I've been using the AccuGage units for 10 yrs or so. They don't do well when dropped. AccuGage seems to offer a free lifetime calibration of their gages. They're very good.

I think you can buy AccuGage, a cheaper one, at Advance Auto Parts. They have a very broad range of designs and chuck styles.
