In theory it
might add a bit of gloss, but I sure wouldn't count on any significant level of added protection.
The worst side effect you'll have is additional wash induced marring if the cheaper car wash doesn't have the same level of lubricity as what you're now using.
I keep some cheaper car wash around but about the only time they're used is in a foam gun for a high strength pre-soak where I plan to reapply wax/sealant afterwards.
