Since we use the electoral college system, the election is going to be decided by 10 or so states. The dem's will get the NEurban areas and California and the republicans will get the western less populated states and the south.
The battleground is the mid-West and Florida. Given the turnout is not anywhere near 100% of registered voters, the winner will be the one that can get out the vote. National polls are meaningless. It is the polls in the battleground states that matter. Judging by the republican tone, they are worried. They abandoned Michigan to concentrate on Ohio, etc.
In 2000, the majority selected Al Gore. Bush won the electoral college. I think the majority was right in 2000 given what has transpired in the last 8 years.
Let's hope whomever wins the best support but I think it will just be a continuation of the same partisanship.
