Example 2; In Mexico you can walk into the pharmacy, and request your medications without a written prescription, or a visit to the doctor. What is Canadian law on this issue ? Im told its similar to Mexico ? Im going to Niagra on the Ontario side. When traveling I dont like to carry my medications over boarders as it could create a headache with Customs. The medication in question is Hydromorphone.

The Canadian system is just like the U.S system. If it's a prescription drug you need one from your doctor to get it at a pharmacy. The only real difference is some drugs in Canada that are prescriptions in the US are OTC here (but nothing major, im talking like tylenol 500), and that prescription drugs here tend to be cheaper.
Get a note from your doctor describing why you need pain killers and bring 'em over.
