I wouldn't bother applying a sealant and then putting the Collinite over top of it; I'd just use one or the other.
As for the looks, while I'm the guy who sees a difference between #16 and 476S, and yeah, my wife saw it too, that was one very specific set of circumstances. FWIW we can both spot most *any* change on that particular car.
99.9% of the time I'll adamantly insist that if a vehicle doesn't look good, it's *NOT* because it has Collinite on it instead of some other LSP.
On the beads-that-sit-there issue, I find that the machine application, combined with the pseudo-spitshine using a good carnauba-friendly QD (e.g., Griot's SpeedShine) can result in beads that are more spherical and *barely* contact the paint. These rounder beads roll off a lot more readily too. Applying #16 this way, I can't say I see a difference (in how the beads behave/leave spots/etc.) compared to Collinite. But of course the prep has a lot to do with this too...
