Re: 40th Anniversary ZR-1 Corvette (8 Days, More Than 60 Hours!!) by RickRack...

Vehicle Preparation
The first day of the detail consisted entirely of stripping the car down to remove all contaminants, including old polish & wax residue, mold, dirt, grime, grease, oil and anything else that was on the paint that could interfere with the polishing process. This step is an extremely important part of the detail and can save lots of polishing time. As soon as I began rinsing the car down, it was beading water tremendously which told me that it had been recently waxed. If the previous layer of wax is not fully removed, it creates a barrier and causes the polisher to “hydroplane” above the paint surface, making it very difficult for any defects to be removed.
I began by using an industrial strength antibacterial degreaser to strip the car free of all loose contaminants, mold and wax. I sprayed the cleaner directly onto a clean microfiber towel and scrubbed each panel thoroughly.
These pictures show how well the water was beading on the panels that have not been stripped yet…

After stripping the body free of all contaminants, I used a variety of different brushes saturated with cleaner to clean inside all of the emblems, cracks, crevices, jambs, moldings, tail lights, wheels, tires, wheel wells and gaskets to remove all of the mold build-up in these areas.
