Around 2003, one of the chemical suppliers come out with a nice water based patent leather coating. The light clicked and I grabbed my old boots from my Marine days and here are the results.

It took about one hour to apply the coating with a base and top including sanding. I haven't worn them a lot since I did them, but they still look like that.
