These are the best bits of advice given so far - spend it once on quality now and it will last 20+ years. If you only need a mower (no hauling, dumping, carting, etc), grab a ZTR - hands down. Everyone likes their own brands - IMO Deere, Simplicity, Kubata, etc all make great prods. Find one that meets your needs and go from there. Also ask the dealer if you can demo one which will give you a good feel for the product and the service you will receive.
