Re: Apparently, Chinese vehicles aren't doing well in crash tests

BlackElantraGT - I am from Taiwan and I identify myself as Chinese. Many Chinese people in Taiwan identify themselves as the same - culturally we are the same as the people from the mainland. But let's not get into that debate...it will never end.

Anyway, I think your confusing the ability to build high quality goods (which the Chinese already can do, clearly), with North American consumers' perception of homegrown Chinese brands. It takes time to build a brand, and a good reputation, and right now there is not a lot of familiarity with Chinese brands in NA. There are plenty of Chinese brands that make high quality goods, and have a good reputation in the Chinese domestic market - companies like Haier, etc. By the way Lenovo has dropped the IBM name, and the Lenovo notebook that I've been using for the last couple of years has been great. And Lenovo had been contract manufacturing IBM ThinkPads long before they purchased the division.

Over time, the perception of Chinese brands in NA will increase as their quality continues to increase as well. Hyundai's had poor brand perception when they first entered the NA market, and over time increased their quality and reputation.

About you being racist, let me repeat that I said that your comments were borderline racist. Whether you are asian or not is irrelevant; the fact is that you made a sweeping generalization of Chinese people, which was offensive to me (and I'm sure to other Chinese people on this forum that work hard and do take pride in their work).
