With these new pads (using a FLEX) is this something I need to start worrying about? To the point of buying a thickness gauge?
How often do you plan on compounding or wet sanding? That is where you are removing a decent amount of clear coat each and need to consider paint thickness.

If you are like several posters on here who rarely compound due to using careful wash techniques and only lightly polish every year, paint thickness is not so much of a concern because light polishing removes such a tiny amount of clear.
