Doh, sorry man, I missed that post.

You can vary the speed of the 3403 by varying the trigger pressure. So even though 1100 is listed as the slowest RPM, that's not really true...it varies from zero to 1100 depending on how far you squeeze the trigger. I use this feature to spread polishes evenly before stepping up the speed.

As far as pad size is concerned, it is said that you should stay with pads smaller than 8". I have to admit, I haven't seen that anywhere in the owner's manual, but then again I haven't read it. I mostly use six inch pads anyway, so it doesn't really effect me. The thing seems to have plenty of power, though, I can't imagine that running 8 inchers would hurt anything.
