Re: how many years do you keep a car?

On average 10+ yrs. I've been fortunate to never have any major mechanical issues by doing this. About 3 yrs ago I bought a new truck just because the Explorer I had so many miles and was over 10 yrs old. Although I had no reason to distrust the realibility I felt a newer vehicle would be good for out of town trips. I also felt the Explorer would be more valuable to me as a DD than what I would get on a trade-in. I don't carry comp or collision on the vehicle so taxes and insurance are very resonable. 3 yrs later the new vehicle only has 16,000 miles. I added benefit is I don't care when my son has mud all over his cleats and climbs into my beater.
