I just sold my 1996 Honda Civic today and will be using the cash as a down payment on a new car. The 2008 Mustang GT is in the mix of cars I am looking at. I like it with the option without the spoiler and hood scoop. But given Northeast winters I'm a little concerned about the rear wheel drive even though my father fairs pretty well in his rear wheel BMW 3 series.
The gear ratio in the Mustang in stock trim is pretty tame so I wouldn't worry too much about that. As long as you have a good set of tires they should be able to handle it. The traction control is pretty effective on my Mustang and gets tested every now and then
