I like it because with 6 inch flat pads it gives the pad more contour on certain panels. It also dissapates heat faster. I still can use LC curved edge pads perfect with it too..

The biggest thing is when finishing with ultra soft pads, it gives you more contour and thicker cushion. With plain plastic backing plates, you can get backing plate impressions through the soft pads.
